How might a somatic coaching session go?

Somatic coaching with Imani is for you if…

  1. You want to commit to regular periods of rest; whether that be a learning week, a solo retreat, a 30 day rest and renewal or a sabbatical.

  2. You want to explore how to work with your energy in order to thrive in life, in your work or business.

  3. You want to slow down and work at a different pace

  4. You want to create new habits where there is consistent encouragement and a degree of accountability

  5. You are a creative, entrepreneur, community manager or leader in a social impact organisation seeking support to deepen your practice of rest and recovery for sustainable work practices

Here is a live anonymous example of how a somatic session can go

PRIORITISE REST

In a recent session, a client wanted to find ways to work with their energy and take better care of themselves. The client was going through a lot, so there were many physical sensations in the body that wanted attention. We made space for all of what was coming up for them, and also got clear on what needed the most attention.

A lot of grief and sadness came up, which we witnessed and nurtured. This turned out to be what the client really needed and had not had time to gift themselves: permission to feel. They felt immense relief, and a desire to practice holding themselves (or finding ways to feel held) as a regular practice. This required the client to identify what their body needed and didn’t need - leading them to identify their boundaries and explore how best to communicate and honour those boundaries.

What happens at the end of a somatic session?

At the end of a somatic session, I save time for discussion and any suggested action items for the client. I love asking how clients feel, what questions they have and what they experienced. Then, I ask if it’s ok if I reflect back to them any of my own observations and resources I see in them. I lastly mention anything they said that I want to make sure they remember.

Some optional homework and action item ideas include:

  • Adding a new daily affirmation

  • Journaling, free writing and reflecting on prompts between our sessions for gentle accountable

  • Implementing a new practice or ritual

  • Using visualisation and art making to increase self awareness

  • Mapping their work schedule in line with their energy

  • Re-imagining current business strategies and process

  • Planning a solo retreat for yourself or your business
